JKL MLHG-06 Horizontal In-Line Gravity Slurry Sampler

Static proportional diversion sampler for mineral slurries installed in horizontal pipelines, featuring optimized internal hydraulic geometry for continuous increment extraction without moving parts or process interruption.

Main Applications: Flotation feed lines, cyclone discharge, final concentrate and tailings streams, continuous metallurgical process control, and online XRF analyzer feed systems.

The JKL MLHG-06 Horizontal In-Line Gravity Sampler is specifically engineered for extracting representative increments from continuous mineral slurry flows (solid–liquid mixtures) conveyed through horizontal pipelines in mineral processing plants.

The unit is installed directly in the slurry transport line and allows proportional extraction of a fraction of the total flow without interrupting plant operations. It ensures suitable sampling conditions for metallurgical control, mass balance reconciliation, and online analyzer feed applications.

This version features a fully enclosed housing with an internally optimized interception system and bottom discharge configuration, adapted for abrasive slurry service.

Operating Principle for Slurry Applications

The MLHG-06 operates under the principle of proportional diversion through partial interception of the slurry stream by means of:

  • A hydraulically optimized internal deflector
  • A controlled sampling aperture
  • A bottom flanged discharge connection to the collection system

The internal geometry has been specifically engineered to:

  • Prevent particle settling
  • Minimize dead zones
  • Reduce turbulence-induced bias
  • Maintain a uniform hydraulic regime

The extracted increment flows by gravity to the secondary sampling stage (splitter, collector, or online analyzer).

  • Application: Mineral slurry (20–70% solids by weight, depending on design parameters)
  • Installation: Horizontal in-line configuration
  • Type: Static proportional diversion sampler
  • Construction Materials:
    • Structural carbon steel with abrasion-resistant lining, or
    • Stainless steel AISI 304 / AISI 316, or
    • Internal polyurethane or ceramic linings (depending on slurry abrasiveness)
  • Connections: ANSI / DIN standard flanges

Advantages for Slurry Operations

✔ No motorized drive required (low energy consumption)
✔ Reduced maintenance compared to rotary samplers
✔ Simple integration into existing pipeline systems
✔ Hydraulic design minimizes internal sedimentation
✔ Ideal for feeding online XRF analyzers
✔ Suitable for secondary or tertiary process control points

Typical Applications in Mineral Processing Plants

  • Flotation feed control
  • Cyclone overflow/underflow discharge
  • Final concentrate streams
  • Tailings discharge
  • Thickener feed lines
  • Continuous metallurgical monitoring systems

Key Technical Considerations

To ensure representativity in slurry sampling:

  1. The slurry flow must be fully mixed under stable hydraulic conditions.
  2. The pipeline must operate free of prior sediment buildup.
  3. Installation is recommended on straight pipe sections upstream.
  4. The relationship between pipeline diameter and sampling aperture must be verified.
  5. The sample discharge must remain completely unrestricted (no backpressure).

For applications requiring higher statistical accuracy (ISO 3082 / ISO 12743 compliance for concentrates), the system may be complemented with:

  • A secondary sampler
  • A homogenizer
  • A JKL rotary sample divider

Comparison with a Rotary Sampler

Feature MLHG-06 Rotary Sampler
Moving Parts No Yes
Electrical Consumption Low Medium/High
Primary Sampling Accuracy Moderate High precision
CAPEX Low Higher
Maintenance Low Moderate

The JKL MLHG-06 is ideally suited for continuous operational process control, whereas rotary sampling systems are recommended for primary contractual metallurgical accounting applications.
