Y-Type Mixer for Granular Abrasive Mineral Particles

The Y-Type Mixer is a tumbling blending unit designed for the efficient homogenization of granular solid particles, particularly abrasive mineral materials (e.g., mineral concentrates, silica sand, crushed limestone, anthracite, dry tailings, etc.).

Main applications: Homogenization of mineral samples, grade adjustment, preparation of laboratory reference blends, and pre-conditioning prior to pelletizing or sampling processes in mining.

The Y-Type Mixer is a tumbling blending unit designed for the efficient homogenization of granular solid particles, particularly abrasive mineral materials (e.g., mineral concentrates, silica sand, crushed limestone, anthracite, dry tailings, etc.). Its Y-shaped geometric configuration enables gentle, uniform mixing without dead zones, minimizing material degradation and premature equipment wear.

1. Operating Principle

The mixer operates under the principles of diffusion mixing and gravitational convection. The Y-shaped vessel rotates around its axis, causing the material to:

  • Be lifted by friction against the internal wall surface.
  • Fall by gravity, generating cross-flow between both arms of the “Y”.
  • Continuously redistribute until a high degree of homogeneity is achieved.

This mixing mechanism is particularly suitable for:

  • Solid–solid blending applications.
  • Grade correction in mineral products.
  • Pre-sampling homogenization prior to metallurgical testing.
  • Blending of dry additives in small proportions.

2. Main Components

a) Mixing Vessel (Y-Chamber)

  • Manufactured from stainless steel.

b) Drive System

  • Industrial-grade electric motor (IP55 or higher).
  • Flexible coupling for vibration absorption and shaft misalignment compensation.
  • Controlled rotational speed (RPM optimized according to particle size distribution and bulk density).

c) Support Structure

  • Reinforced structural steel frame.
  • Anti-vibration design.
  • Anchor plates for secure foundation mounting.

d) Electrical and Control System

  • Independent electrical control panel.
  • Direct-On-Line (DOL), Star-Delta, or Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) starting system.
  • Thermal overload protection and motor protection circuit breaker.
  • Optional programmable timer for automatic mixing cycles.

e) Discharge System

  • Bottom discharge butterfly valve or slide gate valve.
  • Manual or pneumatic actuation (optional).
